SENEGAL - A new group in Linguere, Senegal,West Africa, is now

"E'99" PROJECT - On 11th of August 1999 at 11:04 GMT there will be a total
Solar Eclipse. This project is being sponsored in Romania where the
eclipse will be the strongest. The project will have three phases, two

MIT JUNIOR SUMMIT - Children between the ages of 10 and 16 from every
country in the world are invited to enter a contest to participate in the
1998 Junior Summit to be held at MIT in the United States during the fall
of 1998. Approximately 1,000 participants will be selected to participate
in an online forum based on how well they can document -- in their native
language, through a video or photographic essay, through a musical piece,
or through drawing or painting -- the state of children in their
community, with particular focus on how the digital revolution is
affecting them. Those children with little or no exposure to the digital
revolution are asked to give their vision of a global community. For more

1998 STUDENT TECHNOLOGY LEADERS AWARD - The purpose of this award is to
honor outstanding students (USA only) who have made exemplary and
innovative use of information technology in their schools and communities.
Three students will be chosen to attend the 1998 National Educational
Computing Conference in San Diego, California, June 22-June 24, 1998.
Winning students will present their projects to those attending the
conference and receive an award. Modest and reasonable travel expenses
will be reimbursed for the winners and one chaperone each by Compaq
Computer Corporation. Deadline is February 28, 1998. For more information

YOUTH CAN 1998 CONFERENCE: The conference will take place on April 23rd
with the theme of biodiversity. More than 800 students in Austin, Texas,
and 850 students in New York City attended YouthCaN 1997. Through
telecommunications, students from Australia, Spain, Argentina, Belarus,
Lithuania, and Washington State also participated. Write to

BUILDING COMMUNITY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS: Participate in this online
conference, running from April 15 to May 7, and hosted in conjunction with
a face-to-face conference at the University of Houston in Texas. The
conference's objective is to help communities distill, create, and
identify the best practices for long term healthy community development.
