HOST FAMILIES WANTED IN THE UNITED STATES! PROJECT HARMONY is seeking
homestays for high school students from the Newly Independent States of
the former Soviet Union for both the first semester of 1998-1999 and the
full academic year. There will be between 40-50 students (ages 15-17)

LOCAL HISTORY PROJECT: Students research local history of their town or
area using primary resources, newspapers, and books and post their stories
to iearn.kidscan. Project starting date was 22 February, finishing date

HUMAN RIGHTS IN ACTION: The UN is launching a human rights project on 20
March 1998 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. The CyberSchoolBus will collect inspiring
stories of classes or schools defending and promoting human rights in

FOOD FOR NORTH KOREA: A project proposal to bring food relief to people in
North Korea-working with an organization that installs greenhouses at
schools and hospitals to allow students, teachers and hospital staff to
grow food for a much extended growing season. After the greenhouses are
installed, it will be possible to communicate with the students at the

TEDDY BEAR PROJECT: Classes first exchange teddy bears and local momentos,
and then the bears' "travel diaries." To see reflections on past

E'99 PROJECT: This project is related to the astronomical event of the
century for Europe, the total eclipse of the 11th of August 1999. Although
it starts from an astrological event, the project will allow through its
four components, an interdisciplinary approach (physics, mathematics,

SEASON FOR NONVIOLENCE: In commeroration of the 30th and 50th memorial
anniversaries of Dr. Martin Luther King and M.K. Gandhi's assassinations,
I*EARN members are encouraged to visit the iearn.violence conference. A
Peace Project will be taking place during this Season with topics posted

YOUTH CAN 1998 CONFERENCE: This year's conference will be happening on
April 23rd. The theme is biodiversity. More than 800 students in Austin,
Texas, and 850 students in New York City at the The American Museum of
natural History attended YouthCaN 1997. Through the use of
telecommunications, students from Australia, Spain, Argentina, Belarus,
Lithuania, and Washington state were also able to participate. For more
