AWARD: I*EARN has received the EdNeET 1998 HERO Award from the
HellerReports--a major publisher and consulting company in
the field of educational technology, based in Illinois, USA.
This award is presented annually to the organization that

FLOODS IN CHINA: Subude writes from China: The flood in China this year
is incredibly violent and it is considered to be the most serious one
ever since we had historical records. I invite I*EARN
people all over the world to make contributions
to Chinese school-less students and homeless people. Students
in Beijing are willing to work on a project called " Fighting with
flood" and we would like more students and teachers to

NEW SCHOOLS IN BULGARIA: At an introductory seminar on the 18-19 september
there were 96 teachers from more than 30 cities. Welcome!
HOLOCAUST/GENOCIDE PROJECT iearn.hgp. The HGP has received a
grant from an anonymous donor for a global, student art contest
for An End to Intolerance. Works submitted must be in
black/white format. There will be 3 cash prizes! Look for our
upcoming announcement.
RACE AGAINST RACISM: Global classsroom project
Deadline for 1998 competitions extended now to November 6 th 1998.

I*EARN IN UKRAINE: They have started preparation for autumn workshops:
two seminars, first one in Kiev 26-28 of October (8 schools from
central,northen
and western regions of Ukraine), second - in Kharkiv 29-31 of October (8
schools,
south,east).
SEA TURTLES: Rowena Gerber from Miami, Florida writes:
"Many of my elementary school students have helped release baby sea
turtles into the ocean this week. If any of your classes are interested
in writing to my students about sea turtles or other ocean topics, we
will be happy to share photos, facts, and friendship!"
ANNOUNCEMENT OF EUROPEAN YOUTHCAN: European YouthCaN will take place in
April 1999 in Grodno,Belarus. A 3-days annual event which will take place
simultaneously with YouthCaN New York. The participants of all European

FIGHT AGAINST CHILD LABOUR: A place for I*EARN
youth to research issues of child labour, discuss issues, devise, develop
and implement action agendas. The project invites all to
make a special contribution during the 2 week period of 5th to 17th
October.

PUNISHMENT PROJECT: Students are invited to discuss different life
situations
which result in punishment. An experienced psychologist will give the
consultations and explanations of the situations to every one who

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S CONFERENCE ON THE ENVIRONMENT (ICC): 23 - 25
November 1998, Dunedin, New Zealand. The Conference which is being
organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the 1998
International Children's Conference Board, Dunedin, will bring together
150 children between the ages of 10 and 12 years to learn and voice their
