CONGRATULATIONS: The American College of Sofia Web Site and A VISION
Virtual Magazine won the silver medal (first place) in the
Computer Space'98 International Art Forum in NDK from the Bulgarian
Internet Society.
INTERNATIONAL ESSAY & ART CONTEST was launched on Tuesday, September 16,
1998. Declared by the United Nations as the
International Day of Peace, the third Tuesday of September is also knows
as Hear the Children Day. The deadline for all submissions has been
extended until September 21, 1999. The theme of this Contest is Building a
Global Voice of Youth - Youth between the ages of 15 & 24 are strongly

CONNECTING MATH TO OUT LIVES: students are invited a) to explore how math
is used in their families and communities, and b) to use math skills to
investigate community or social concerns and then take action to promote
greater equity in the world around them. November,

THE DANGER OF NAZISM TODAY: This new I*EARN HGP project will address such
questions as: 1.Youth and the danger of fascism
today 2.Is there any danger of militant nationalism in your country

SHOES FOR CENTRAL AMERICA: Patti McLain in California is coordinating a
project in her school to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane
Mitch in Nicaragua and Honduras. In order to help young learners
understand that they can help in small ways, they have been collecting
shoes that children have outgrown. The children are actively involved in
cleaning them and getting them ready as a gift. If are interested see

CHAT SESSIONS RE: CHILDREN'S RIGHTS: November 20-23 there will be a big
OneWorld youth conference in Mongolia, organized with the help of United
Nations. As a part of this conference they plan to organize an Internet
chat for young people to express their opinion regarding children's
issues, human rights, population and development issues, social
development and gender issues. If you would like to take part in the chat

with the answers to the following questions: 1. Do you have access to a
server to host a chat? 2. Do you think it is possible to use some public
chat server? 3. Can you ask a group of young people in your country to

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S CONFERENCE ON THE ENVIRONMENT (ICC): 23 - 25
November 1998, Dunedin, New Zealand. The Conference which is being
organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the 1998
International Children's Conference Board, Dunedin, will bring together
150 children between the ages of 10 and 12 years to learn and voice their
