YOUTH CAN '99: THE INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND COMMUNICATIONS
CONFERENCE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE will be held APRIL 22-24 at the American
Museum of Natural History in New York City. We welcome participation in

RUSSIAN INTER-REGIONAL CENTER:  They will hold a conference for all
teachers 
and students from Moscow and other regions of Russia at school # 689 in
order to 
share their experience in I*EARN. 
I*EARN-CANADA: Bill Belsey writes:  Ullakut (oo-la-koot / hello)! On April
1st the world map as 
we know it changed with the creation of Canada's newest territory, Nunavut
(noo-na-voot, which is 
Inuktitut for "Our Land"). I would like to invite you all to visit my

CONGRATULATIONS ON TEACHING AWARD: NEITA (National Excellence in Teaching
Awards) in Australia selected Jo Tate of Ararat Community College as the

TALKING ABOUT THE BALKANS: Join other I*EARN members around the world 
discussing this important issue. In iearn.ventures there are two new
topics, 
THE REFUGEE CRISIS ( where students can express their ideas on how the
world 
can assist the refugees) and NATO's ROLE  where students can express your
ideas 
on the difficult role of NATO in Europe peace keeping).  Students are also 
discussing these issues in iearn.violence and iearn.youth. 
ACCOUNTING FOR TEENAGE PREGNANCY: Join this project with the aim of
raising 
awareness of teenage pregnancies and the responsibility 
the costs involved. See this topic on iearn.ideas 
HOW CAN WE HELP THE CHILDREN OF KOSOVO? 
Add your voices to the discussion at UNICEF's Voices of Youth

dialogue. 
This discussion supports the Hague Appeal for Peace Campaign 1999 and the

I*EARN-RELIGION: Join Students from Slovakia in a discussion about
religion. 
Topics posted so far address religious diversity in Slovakia and Buddhism. 

SURVEY: Two graduate students are seeking to measure how I*EARN
connections affect 
students' feelings about working with other students.  They write: 
"Teachers, we need your help in analyzing the impact of I*EARN projects. 
Please encourage all of your students to fill out our short and fun

I*EARN-FRANCAIS: Join discussions in French on topics including 
Napoleon and the "war" in Serbia. 

I*EARN-LATINA: Among others, a new project comparing educational 
problems in Canada and Latin America is taking place in iearn.latina. 

I*EARN-PORT: Join speakers of Portuguese in Portugal, Brazil and 
Mozambique in  the Portuguese language iearn.port. 

I*EARN-POVERTY: Join students in Thailand, Uganda and 
Bulgaria who are all discussing issues of poverty iearn.npoverty. 

I*EARN-KIDSCAN: Join others who are currently participating in the 
Local History, Children's Folk Games, Special Places and in Spanish, 
the Rhymes and Guessing Games project. 

GLOBAL ART SENSE OF CARING: The 1999 Global Art project "A Sense of
Caring". 
Has started. Join schools from U.S., Australia, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania,
Ecuador, 
and Nicaragua. Because Northern hemisphere school years end in June, 
please exchange your artwork and writing by the end of April.

CONNECTING MATH TO OUR LIVES: See new entries about Math and Normal Life
