SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW BEING CALLED FOR HOSTING THE I*EARN
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE YEAR 2001. The I*EARN Assembly will
consider proposals submitted by October 30th 1999. Details of
the criteria for hosting the I*EARN International Conference
have been posted to iearn.teachers and iearn.latina. If you
would like a copy of the criteria sent to you, please contact
the International Secretariat:
iearn-international@iearn.org.au. Applications should be sent
to the International Secretariat at:
iearn-international@iearn.org.au. Yuri, Victor, Talis, Toni
and Virginia (International Secretariat).

I*EARN POLAND ESTABLISHED AS INDEPENDENT BRANCH OF INTERNET
TEACHER ASSOCIATION.  October 9 in Gdynia (Baltic coast city)
will be the first Board meeting, then we will announce who is

CONNECTING MATH TO OUR LIVES PROJECT BEGINS NOW, IN OCTOBER. We

THE CONTEMPORARY NEWS MAGAZINE.  Join discussions currently
underway on topics such topics as "Year 2000 - Y2K" and "Fear,"

CYCLING SIBERIA. Two young Australians, Tim Cope and Chris
Hatherly are cycling from London to Beijing. Along the way,
they are working with schools and students, inspiring them with
tales of adventure. If you would like to follow the journey,

visiting schools in Russia, Siberia, Mongolia and China. If you

KINDRED 2000 INVITATION TO JOIN THE PROJECT. Join us in
researching the lives of your students' ancestors. We would
like them to tell the story of the twentieth century decade by
decade, writing stories about events in the lives of children
or teenagers in each period of ten years between 1900 and 2000,
and comparing life in many different countries during the whole
century. Encourage students to write stories of significant
events - funny, sad, celebrations, historical connections,
memorable occasions, and also share artwork and photos. See

LEWIN 2000. Lewin is an anthology of student writing. We invite
you to send contributions for the 2000 edition to iearn.lewin

MUSIC PROJECTS.  See iearn.music to participate in any of the
three Music Projects currently underway in I*EARN:  TALKING
TIMBUKTU:  Global Children's Music Project, Folk Songs, or My
Sound of Music.

STOP VIOLENCE PROJECT.  See iearn.violence for a curriculum
containing over 20 conflict resolution activities on topics
ranging including Coping with Anger, Peer Pressure, Win-Win
Negotiation, and the Violence of Discrimination, as well as
student discussions currently focusing on the Death Penalty and
School Violence. 

YOUTH VOLUNTEERISM AND SERVICE DISCUSSIONS IN iearn.civics! 
Among the themes being discussed:  definitions of youth
volunteerism and service in  various cultural and social
contexts,  reflections on personal experiences in community
service, surveys about youth service, questionnaires exploring 
experiences in this field, and more!   Other ideas are welcome, also.
