WELCOME TO KARINE DURGARYAN, NEW I*EARN COORDINATOR IN YEREVAN,
ARMENIA.  Recently, I*EARN conducted a  one-day training
workshop for teachers  involved with the Narod program. 
Funding  came from  USIA/IREX. Yuri Romanenkov, I*EARN
Coordinator for  Central/Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and
Marie Lou Papazian (Narod Institute) facilitated the training.

YOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL CAMP IN SLOVAKIA, TATRY NATIONAL PARK. 80
students from 13 countries came to Slovakia to participate in
the 2nd environmental camp, with activities related to geology,
local flora and fauna, and tourist development of the High
Tatras, and contemporary environmental problems. The event was
organized in a cooperation with US Peace Corps, Slovak Academy
Science, Srobarova high school and I*EARN. Thanks to Soros
Foundation for supporting this camp www.iearn.sk/99/camp/.

TEACHER TRAINING MEETING IN SLOVAKIA. 25 newcomer teachers from
Slovakia were learning about I*EARN. Thanks to Branko Marcetic,
Istvan Szaboo, Katarina Pisutova and Joko Vrabel who were
helping to involve these teachers to I*EARN.

SCHOOLS ONLINE/I*EARN TRAINING IN ISRAEL. Two groups of
approximately 30 Arab and Jewish Israeli teachers and students
worked and lived together over five days, learning Internet
skills and forming  community.  Both groups made plans to work
on several collaborative I*EARN projects during the school
year, and meet again in person.  See one group's

ALLIANCE for GLOBAL LEARNING TRAINING SESSION IN WEST BANK. 
See iearn.teachers for messages of new Palestinian teachers
from 10 schools on the West Bank and in Gaza working with
I*EARN for the first time, and continue to watch
iearn.teachers and the I*EARN Database for updates of their
e-mail addresses.   The Training was facilitated by the WorLD
Program.

**Each participating school in both training will be given
equipment through Schools Online to sustain the projects.**

HOLOCAUST/GENOCIDE PROJECT NEWS:  
-Congratulations to Vanessa Schwarz of Cold Spring Harbor High
School, New York. Her essay, "My Great-Grandmother," which
appears in the global, student magazine An End to Intolerance,
1999, has been published on the web site: Women and the
Holocaust, http://www.interlog.com/~mighty. Click on
"Generation to Generation" to read Vanessa's essay.
-Congratulations to all participants of the Holocaust/genocide
Project which was presented at the Second International
Conference on Holocaust Education at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem. The
proposal written by Gideon Goldstein and Honey Kern can be
found on Yad Vashem's web site.

DO WE HAVE A SPARE PLANET? Students discuss  environmental
problems such as deforestation, animal destinction, national
parks and their possible solutions.  Upcoming activity for Nov
20th -  The day of the Child - discussions about children,
child labor, child abuse or any other positive or negative

ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINTS.  Watch the iearn.environ conference
for an announcement for the "Ecological Footprints" project. 
This project measures the consumption and production impact
that individuals, schools, communities have on the planet and
explores ways in which these might be altered through lifestyle
changes.

FOOD FOR ALL PROJECT.  Participants are starting to introduce
themselves as they receive a CD Rom which has been developed
for the project.  See the iearn.npoverty conference.

HOLIDAY PROJECTS.  See iearn.culture for discussions of
holidays around the world.  Subjects: Solstice Holidays,
Winter Holidays, and European Festivals and Traditions. 
A Junior High Class in Korea is hoping to learn more about
Thanksgiving Day, and to share about their Chu-suk
(Korean Thanksgiving day).  See their message under "Solstice
Holidays"  in iearn.culture. 

SEEKING PARTNERS FOR ENGLISH/RUSSIAN LANGUAGE PROJECT.  Our
school is interested in all I*EARN activity related to
English or Russian teaching.  We want to work on related
projects, and learn more about English teaching in other
countries. And in our turn, we'll try to be helpful for you.

THE DAY THAT CAMELOT DIED. Franklin Township School in New
Jersey, USA  is creating a web site on the question, "What were
you doing and what are your remembrances of the day that
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated (Nov. 22, 1963)?"
Students may ask a parent, grandparent, or relative and send
their answers to camelot@fts.csnet.net. On November 22, they
will post webpages with your responses from all over the world.
