I*EARN CALENDAR: Southern Hemisphere schools are closing for
their summer breaks this month. Northern Hemisphere schools
will also be closing mid-month for shorter winter breaks.

I*EARN TEACHERS AND SCHOOLS ARE FINALISTS IN WIRELESS CHILDNET
AWARDS.  In the "schools" section, Petru Dimitru and Duiliu
Zamfirescu School in  Romania are finalists for the Children's
Folk Games Project, and Jo Tate in Australia received a special
"individual" award for her work in the school and with I*EARN.
In addition, Judy Barr's Kindred Project at St Pauls  Anglican
School in Australia is a "Commended Project."

I*EARN TEACHER HIGHLIGHTED BY PBS TELEVISION NETWORK. The
classroom work of Kristi Rennenbohm Franz, USA is being
highlighted by PBS as an example of how a rural community can

enhance teaching and learning.

SEVEN WONDERS OF THE 20th CENTURY. On December 10 - 11, I*EARN
schools of Belarus gathered for a seminar in Minsk, where they
developed an idea for a project to gather the most remarkable
inventions, discoveries, ideas born in the 20th century. If you

BETINHO PRIZE FOR USE OF INTERNET TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. To
celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Association for Progressive
Communications (APC) is launching the Betinho Prize, "in an
effort to recognize and to document outstanding examples of how
the Internet is being used to make a real difference.  The $US
7,500 prize is open to nonprofit organizations, community-based
groups, coalitions or social movements anywhere in the world
that have successfully used information and communication
technologies as an essential ingredient in their work.

YOUTHCAN 2000 CONFERENCE ACCEPTING WORKSHOP PROPOSALS. The
YouthCaN project iearn.youthcan is looking for students to
present workshops at the annual YouthCaN event,  to be held May
1, 2000.  Workshops can be in person at the American Museum of
Natural History in New York City,  USA or via
