I*EARN LIVE ON SLOVAK STATE TV!  Congratulations to  students
from Srobarova High School who presented I*EARN in a youth
talkshow of Slovak state TV. In live broadcasting they
presented environmental activities, the Youth CaN program and

CHILD LABOR PROJECT-NEW "LETTERS FROM KARACHI." Research and 
writing on child labour in Pakistan by students of the Sultan
Mohamed Shah Aga Khan School in Karachi.  You can read these
"Letters from Karachi" on iearn.projects or on the Child
Labour Project web site http://www.iearn.org.au/clp. Responses may

SIG/TEL ONLINE LEARNING AWARDS - 2000.   Are you and your
students involved in an original, online learning project?  If
so, you may wish to enter the "SIG/Tel Online Learning Awards -
2000."  Since 1991, the Special Interest Group for Telelearning
(SIG/Tel), a division of the International Society for
Technology in Education (ISTE), has recognized creative
teachers for their pioneering use of telecommunication networks
to provide innovative learning opportunities for students from

"THE MILLENNIUM SONG"  Part of the Global Song Project, this
song, based on a Prelude of Chopin, has so far been translated
into 15 languages and recorded in 10: English, Catalan,
Spanish, Basque, Galician, Occitan, Norwegian, Zulu, Afrikaans
and German.   All translations and recordings can be downloaded
from Global Song website at http://www.globalsong.net and
anyone can do a  translation and recording in their own
language, and send it to  the project.  Starts: December 21,

GRANTS TO COVER COSTS OF INTERNET EQUIPMENT AND CONNECTIVITY.
SEED is a Schlumberger educational non profit initiative that
provides educational organizations two-year grants grants to
cover the cost of Internet equipment and access.  See
http://www.slb.com/seed/cp.d. As of today, the SEED Connectivity
Grant Program is available in: Azerbaijan (Baku), Egypt (Cairo,
Alexandria and Port Said), Gabon (Port Gentil), India (Bombay,
New-Delhi, Dehradun and Madras), Malaysia (Kemaman), Mexico
(Mexico City), Nigeria (Lagos), Russia (Poikovsky), South
Africa (Cape Town), Thailand (Bangkok), United Arab Emirates
(Abu-Dhabi, Dubai), Venezuela (Caracas), Vietnam (Ho Chi Min).
SEED grantees: - can communicate in English, - are
underpriviledged (the tuition should be free or very low), -
are able to pick up the cost of connectivity maintenance once
the grant terminates, - have an email, a few computers and a

ACTIVISM NOMINATIONS FOR "WEBBIE" AWARDS.  The Academy of
Digital Arts and Sciences is looking for nominations in the
"Activism" category for its Webbie awards program.  The focus
is on sites and projects using the Web and Internet technology
to activate people in a new way or to create a new kind of
activism. The source also is interested in Web versions of

Beijing - Europe airlift issue: A few people are working on a
group (cheaper) rate for travelling together from  a single
site in Europe.  Frankfurt (Germany) appears to be the  most

TRAINS TO BEIJING.  There are two international train lines to
Beijing. One is from Moscow on Tuesday and arrives in Beijing
on the following Monday. The round way trip costs about US$390.
The other is from Ulaanbaator, Mongolia on Thursday and the
